On June 29, the Holy Church simultaneously celebrates the memory of the holy glorious apostles Peter and Paul, whom she calls the first supreme patriarchs and universal teachers. They worked hard to spread the word of God, suffered a lot of suffering and persecution, and have bequeathed to us in their messages the basic rules of the Christian faith and life.
In the Apostle Peter, the Church sees an image of one who denied Christ and then repented, and in the Apostle Paul – an image of one who opposed the Lord and then believed.
St. Peter’s Day is a day for gatherings in the villages, for folk rejoicing.
A traditional dish is beaten fresh cheese, which is fried in a pan with flour and called “white man”. Chicken, parsley apples and pumpkin are also put on the table.
If the day is hot, it will be very cold during Christmas Lent. If the cuckoo still crows, the winter will be mild.
